About Us...

At JM Canine Services, the philosophy is simple - create an environment that will encourage socialization with other dogs, exercise, outdoor activities, consistency, positive reinforcement and guaranteed training.

JM Canine Services does not believe in treat training for the simple fact that you should not have to "bribe" your dog to listen to you when giving basic obedience commands.  Besides, most people do not have treats on hand each time they need their dog to come or sit and stay for a short period of time, especially when you are away from home.

The majority of our clients come from referrals, not only from satisfied clients but also from many Veterinarians in the Central Florida area.

Owner and Certified Trainer- John McGrath

JOHN copy.jpg (34778 bytes)JM Canine Services has been owned and operated since 1994.
He has worked with animals for over 17 years and devotes his time to professional dog training, having trained thousands of dogs in the Central Florida area since that time.  He has a 7 year old daughter named Molly.  Their menagerie now includes 2 dogs as they have lost both of their Rottie's to cancer in the past  few years. John now has a Great Dane named Renegade, and a 13 year old Shih Tzu named Max
John's philosophy is simple -  it is DOG psychology, not human psychology.
For years, clients have called John the "Dog Whisperer of Central Florida."
A long list of local veterinarians and dog rescue groups count on his expertise, referring their clients to him for help with their dog problems.  They also rely on his ability to relate to and communicate with both the dogs and their owners.  Every year, John  joins the Seminole County Animal Shelter as well as the SPCA of Central Florida during their local fund-raising events.  He performs training demonstrations at both The Paws in the Park and The Wiggle Waggle Walk.  A certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, John teaches an intermediate training class where graduates earn their certificate from The American Kennel Club as well as from JM Canine Services.  John is available for lectures and demonstrations also.

   Certified Trainer- Melanie Fox

KolbephotographyJan21'05017.jpg (65177 bytes)A Florida native, Melanie Fox has had a lifelong love of animals.  She has previously worked in veterinary clinics and has trained dogs and horses. She currently has two Great Danes, one Miniature Pinscher, two cats and one horse.
Melanie lives with her two children, Willow, her 10 year old daughter, and Darian, her 8 year son.
All of whom provide ample opportunities to practice training techniques. Soft hearted when it comes to furry creatures, especially big ones, she has adopted from the Central Florida Great Dane Rescue, also adopting and caring for other dogs and animals along the way. Like John, Melanie considers the furry ones to be as much a part of her family as any person, and treats them with equal respect.

     Certified Trainer - Melissa Pratt

Melissa Pratt.jpg (65177 bytes) Melissa Pratt was born in Chicago IL and raised in England for 25years until moving to Orlando FL in 2007. Growing up she had a black Labrador by the name of Mavro (which means black in Greek). Mavro went blind 3 years before he died but you would never know he was blind by the way he got around using his sense of smell and hearing he was rarely on a leash because he was so good.
As a teenager she had a Gorden Setter and a mixed breed dog that stayed with her parents when she left home to pursue her Performing Arts Career in various historic Hotels across Britain.
At age 22 she got her own black Labrador puppy named Gravel by the breeder because his mother was expecting 5 puppies and after the 5th puppy was born the breeder let the mother dog out in the yard and surprise puppy number 6 dropped down on the Gravel! Melissa took Gravel to training classes as a puppy and he also joined fly ball club and agility, it was doing these classes that first sparked her interest in dog training. Gravel and Melissa got on a flight over to America from England in March 2007 and they love it here. After a year of being here she decided to enroll in Animal Behavior College and start her career in dog training. Melissa has worked in a couple of local doggie daycare and boarding facilities as well as pet sitting and truly love working with Dogs. She has learned so much from John McGrath and will continue to learn and grow with him as a trainer.
